<h3 class="subHeading" xmlns="">Temporary Directories at the Root of the System Drive</h3><div class="subSection" xmlns=""><content xmlns="http://ddue.schemas.microsoft.com/authoring/2003/5">

Windows Embedded Developer Update creates temporary directories with names in the form sandbox-<i>xxxx</i> at the root of the system drive. Sometimes, the sandbox-<i>xxxx</i> directories are not automatically deleted after Windows Embedded Developer Update finishes using them. However, the sandbox-<i>xxxx</i> directories that remain do not interfere with the operation of Windows Embedded Developer Update and do not interfere with other applications, though they take up disk space.</p>
<p xmlns="">To work around the issue of some sandbox-<i>xxxx</i> directories not being automatically deleted, you can manually delete these directories. To do this, choose a time when Windows Embedded Developer Update is not downloading or installing updates, and then delete the sandbox-<i>xxxx</i> directories.</p>

<h3 class="subHeading" xmlns="">Available Updates Are Not Cleared When Search for Updates Fails</h3><div class="subSection" xmlns=""><content xmlns="http://ddue.schemas.microsoft.com/authoring/2003/5">
<p xmlns="">When a search for updates for a particular distribution share or tools installation fails, Windows Embedded Developer Update continues to display a list of available updates from the most recent successful search for updates. Even though the list of available updates remains visible, you cannot download and install updates for the distribution share or tools until a subsequent search for updates succeeds.</p>
<p xmlns="">To work around this issue, successfully complete a search for updates for the particular distribution share or tools. For information about troubleshooting the search for updates, in the Help for Windows Embedded Developer Update, see Troubleshooting: Searching for Updates.</p>

<h3 class="subHeading" xmlns="">Windows Embedded Developer Update Stops Working When Windows Explorer Restarts</h3><div class="subSection" xmlns=""><content xmlns="http://ddue.schemas.microsoft.com/authoring/2003/5">
<p xmlns="">If background search is enabled and Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) restarts, Windows Embedded Developer Update stops working. The Wedu.exe process for Windows Embedded Developer Update continues to run, but background searching for updates does not occur, and you cannot use the main window of Windows Embedded Developer Update.</p>
<p xmlns="">Windows might show a message when Explorer.exe restarts. When Explorer.exe is not running, the Windows Taskbar disappears; it reappears when Explorer.exe restarts.</p>
<p xmlns="">To work around this issue, start Windows Embedded Developer Update. If an error message appears when you start Windows Embedded Developer Update, close Windows Embedded Developer Update, and then start it again. If an error message does not appear, functionality has been restored.</p>
<p xmlns="">Alternatively, use Task Manager (Taskmgr.exe) to end the Wedu.exe process, and then start Windows Embedded Developer Update. This method helps prevent the possibility of starting Windows Embedded Developer Update twice to restore functionality.</p>
